BJ the Chicago Kid Performs ‘Honey’ With Chlöe for Vevo

R&B

BJ The Chicago Kid’s promo trail for his latest album Gravy continues.

The Grammy-nominated singer recently performed his sweet track “Honey” with Chlöe at Vevo Studio in Los Angeles. It’s the pair’s second time performing the song, following their appearance on The Tonight Show earlier this month.

BJ The Chicago Kid also performed “Never Change,” which features guest vocals from Philip Bailey of Earth, Wind & Fire. While Bailey wasn’t present, BJ still delivered an astonishing live rendition of the track.

As indicated above, “Honey” and “Never Change” appear on BJ’s album, Gravy, released in November 2023 via RCA Records. The album also features Robert Glasper, Andra Day, Coco Jones, Cory Henry and Freddie Gibbs.

Regarding the album’s title, BJ explained, “I’m sick of soul music having an old name. When you’re in the hood and they love you, they give you a nickname. To me, the nickname of soul music is ‘gravy.’”

He added, “Gravy smothers, covers and makes everything taste better. The album Gravy is the persona of what the new cool is. It’s that feeling when you’re at your absolute best, got on your best clothes, exuding confidence in every step and word. This project embodies the very essence of how you carry yourself, how you assert your authority, and how you rise to the occasion. In essence, it’s the soul of the music, and in turn, the music becomes the gravy that defines me.”

Gravy was ranked No. 4 on Rated R&B’s 25 Best R&B Albums of 2023 list. “Gravy is proof that you don’t need too many cooks in the kitchen to make a delicious meal. The album is packed with immensely flavorful tracks and will leave you asking for seconds,” wrote Rated R&B’s Keithan Samuels.
