Arin Ray Sets ‘The Mood’ on New Song Featuring D Smoke

R&B

Rising singer Arin Ray makes a smooth return with “The Mood,” his first official single in three years, featuring Grammy-nominated rapper D Smoke.

It only takes one listen to know that “The Mood” is a bedroom anthem that belongs on any lovemaking playlist. Ray’s honeyed vocals flow smoothly over the silky production laced with a sexy bassline.

Ray opens the song with an infectious chorus about his pleasurable experience with his partner.

He sings, “Baby / We’ve been wildin’ / All over the bedroom / Guess we chose violence, over something / Said baby, uh / We’ve been wildin’ / All over the bedroom / All these nasty words, this, that and the third / Ooh, she talkin’ dirty, angel on the earth / Ooh, that’s the mood, that’s the mood.”

D Smoke comes in with a spicy verse, making it clear that he’s not a minute man. “Let’s run it up ’till we can’t count positions / It’s beginning to resemble Brazilian jujutsu without submissions / We never quit whether the couch or kitchen (Yeah) / I keep a towel for every ounce of liquid, not to be too specific,” he raps.

“The Mood” is Ray’s first proper single since his 2019 EP, Phases IIthe sequel to his 2016 project. Phases II featured a guest appearance from Kehlani on “Change.”

Ray released his debut album, Platinum Fire, in March 2018. He followed up later that year with a deluxe edition that included three additional songs.

Although it’s been a little while since Ray dropped a project, he has kept fans engaged with features. In 2020, Ray contributed to K. Roosevelt’s “Bloom (Remix)” with BJ the Chicago Kid, and Rockie Fresh’s “Hold On” with Wale.

This year, he collaborated with rapper Steelo on two songs from his album, Eldorado Excursions — “My Love” and “Uncle Elroy.” He also appears on Blxst’s new song “Fake Love In LA,” which is out today, as well.
