Blindead 23 (Ex-Behemoth, Ex-Katatonia) Announce Debut Album Deuterium

Metal

New progressive metal outfit Blindead 23 (fka Blindead) have taken a major step in their career as a band, as they announced this week that they’ll be releasing their debut album Deuterium on just two months’ time.

Comprised of ex-Behemoth guitarist Mateusz “Havoc” Smierzchalski, ex-Katatonia guitarist Roger Öjersson, and Vltimas, ex-Vader, ex-Decapitated drummer Pawel “Pavulon” Jaroszewicz, the band is a who’s who of extreme metal.

Yet rather than go down the extremities of metal, they opted to make Blindead 23 an avant-garde progressive metal outfit. It’s grimy, it’s got post-metal trappings, and there’s definitely an electronic element to it, but it’s incredibly engaging, too. It’s heavy at points for sure, but from the initial listen of their first single and title track off the new record, they’re not afraid to explore the more melodic side of their sound.

Boasting seven new tracks, Deuterium was actually recorded back in 2023. However, years of refining the sound and getting it exactly right is what caused the record to only now see the light of day. The band describe Deuterium as “a conceptual journey [that] manifests as an uplifting yet often sombre expression and reflection of the soul.”

Deuterium will be available on April 26 via Peaceville, but you can preorder your copy today.
