What happens when you take the perpetually fun vibes music from iconic rock band KISS and run it through the melancholic filter of Katatonia’s style? You get the latest single and possibly most unexpected cover of “A World Without Heroes” from the Swedish band.
Originally released back in 1981 on KISS’ Music from ‘The Elder’, “A World Without Heroes” is one of their more somber sounding tracks. So when you think about it, it’s the perfect song for a band like Katatonia to tackle.
According to Katatonia vocalist Jonas Renkse, the decision to put their own spin on the track stemmed from the fact that it’s on the band’s pre-show playlist. But now it’s got a bit more meaning:
“A final single from the ’Nightmares…’ session, a cover of KISS’ ’A World Without Heroes’ which is one of the songs we usually listen to in the dressing room before going on stage. For us, it now also serves as a memory of Ace Frehley’s legacy. Nico’s rendition of his solo is nothing short of amazing! Also, this release includes Karin Park’s outstanding remix of ’Wind of No Change’”. Enjoy, and come see us in Europe this fall/winter!”
You can check out the cover below and now that it’s out in the open, I wouldn’t be shocked if Katatonia broke it out live once in a while.
