In a world where death metal releases are plentiful, standing out requires more than brutal riffs and guttural growls—it demands creativity, technical skill, and an ear for the unforgettable. Cemetery Filth, now in their 10th year, has all that and more, as their new mini-LP Senses of Detriment proudly demonstrates.

Formed in the shadows of northeast Tennessee in 2014 and now based in Atlanta, Cemetery Filth has undergone significant evolution over the past decade. With lineup changes and a relentless drive to refine their sound, they’ve risen to the challenge of staying relevant in an ever-crowded genre. Senses of Detriment is the next chapter of their journey—a five-track offering that masterfully balances technical prowess with a visceral impact that defines death metal.

What sets Cemetery Filth apart is their ability to blend the old with the new. While their sound pays homage to the greats like Death, Morbid Angel, and Pestilence, their music has a progressive edge that hints at influences from Atheist, Cynic, and later-era Death. This fusion is evident in Senses of Detriment, where intricate riffs and complex rhythms coexist with memorable hooks that lodge themselves deep in the listener’s mind.

The band’s current lineup—Maddie Kilpatrick on lead guitar and vocals, Ryan Guinn on lead guitar, Evie Austin on bass, and Tristan Payne on drums—has found a perfect chemistry. This synergy has allowed Cemetery Filth to push their sound to new heights without losing sight of the raw energy that has always been their trademark.

Maddie Kilpatrick told us, “The general message of these songs is finding strength in yourself, embracing your truth—whatever that may be—growing openly, and pushing past those that keep you down. You’ve got to be tenacious and keep believing in yourself as an artist even when it feels like it doesn’t matter or you’re going against the grain.”

Senses of Detriment is just the beginning of the band’s next chapter, and it’s a powerful reminder that they are evolving, progressing, and consistently delivering death metal upheaval.
