Greetings, Decibel listeners!
I’m beyond stoked about the new releases from Calderum and Oxygen Destroyer, two of my favorite metal bands operating today. But if you don’t care what I think and just want to hear some death metal, the other three albums on today’s list will make for excellent listening as well.
Cheers!

Calderum – Desecration of the Bastille
Calderum is one of a series of names in modern black metal that’s become synonymous with high-quality sonic darkness. And the project’s new EP is no exception, especially the rousing “Thy Power of Our Ancestors.” And look, I normally hate horn instruments in metal, but even I can’t complain about their use in Calderum’s music, so that’s really saying something (Sear Bliss is the other exception).

Carnivore Diprosopus – Rise of the Insurrection
When I hit play on this, I immediately realized my pants had changed to gym shorts. It has a monster truck on the cover!

DØDSKVAD – Krønike III
Grim and dark death metal excellence from Norway via Caligari Records. This is the third in the trilogy of Krønike EPs. I especially like how the band slows things down to really pummel the listener, as this gives the songs a lot of infectious dynamics.

Fulci – Duck Face Killings
It’s hard to think of a better artistic muse for death metal than the work of Lucio Fulci. The Italian filmmaker made some of the most iconic horror and Giallo films that it’s a surprise another band hasn’t seized on this sooner. This is the band’s fifth album, meaning I definitely have some catching up to do.

Oxygen Destroyer – Guardian of the Universe
From our full-album stream of Guardian of the Universe:
“If you’re not familiar with the band, think of them as a combination of Pleasure to Kill-era Kreator, Exterminate-era Angelcorpse, and a panoply of other fast and ferocious sounds from Morbid Saint to Vader to Dark Angel and beyond. And if you want a solid introduction to what they’re all about, you should totally check out the band’s new album, Guardian of the Universe”
