Track Premiere: Volume – ‘Joy of Navigation’

Metal

Get ready to rock the fuck out to Volume. Trucking along since the mid-’90s, the band is fronted by ex-Fu Manchu singer Patrick Brink and are joined on this album by guitarist Ed Mundell, most known for playing guitar with stoner rock legends Monster Magnet from 1992 to 2010, and guitarist Dave Catching (ex-Queens of the Stone Age, ex-Eagles of Death Metal, ex-Afghan Whigs) on synth and production. Soaked in acid and born of a love for The Stooges, MC5 and good old-fashioned psychedelia, Volume’s new album Joy of Navigation is a real treat to listen to.

Don’t take our word for it: listen to the title track below. At just under five minutes, it’s pretty damn hard to not feel great while listening to “Joy of Navigation.” Mundell lays down loose, bright leads throughout the song, matching Brink’s energetic vocal performance and a production job that sounds vintage but clear. “Joy of Navigation” is pure, unadulterated desert rock by masters of the genre.
