Usher is back. The R&B icon has returned with his long-awaited ninth album, Coming Home, via mega, a music collective he co-founded with L.A. Reid, in partnership with gamma.
It’s Usher’s first commercial album release as an independent artist.
The 20-track album includes the previously shared singles “Good Good” featuring Summer Walker and 21 Savage, “Risk It All” featuring H.E.R., “Standing Next to You (Usher Remix)” with Jung Kook, and “Ruin” featuring Pheelz.
Coming Home boasts additional features from The-Dream (“Cold Blooded”), Burna Boy (“Coming Home”) and Latto (“A-Town Girl”).
“COMING HOME is an ode to going back to your roots, whatever or wherever that may be,” says Usher. “I’m COMING HOME to where I’m comfortable in being exactly who I am right now. My hope is that you identify with the new album no matter where you are or what you’re going through, too.”
Reid adds, “USHER’s latest album, COMING HOME, is a testament to his artistry and evolution as a musician. With each track, he invites listeners on a journey of self-discovery and reflection. USHER’s unparalleled talent shines through in every note, making COMING HOME a must-listen for fans old and new.”
“I am so proud of USHER not only as a world class entertainer, but also as someone that I’ve counted as a friend since we were teens. As a friend that has now fearlessly taken his career into his own hands,” shares gamma. Co-Founder & CEO Larry Jackson.
“With this new ninth studio album, he’s bravely unplugged from the matrix of the establishment and become one of the most powerful and important independent artists in the world. And doing it on his own terms. I have such deep admiration and respect for how he’s charting this chapter of his career, and all of us at gamma. could not be happier to count him as a partner as we work closely with mega to turbo charge this incredible moment at hand.”
In a recent interview with ET‘s Kevin Frazier, Usher shared additional details: “The entire album is intended to remind you of romance and love and this journey we are on takes a lot. There’s a lot of things going on in the world, so we’re trying to find our way back to this lovely place where we can just be OK with falling in love with each other and, like, enjoying each other in a way.”
Coming Home is Usher’s first album since 2016’s Hard II Love, released on RCA Records. The album bowed at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top R&B Albums chart and No. 5 on the Billboard 200.
Usher will be supporting his latest album on his Past Present Future Tour. The North American leg kicks off Aug. 20 at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C.
The tour will make stops in Baltimore, Philadelphia, Toronto, Los Angeles, and Atlanta before concluding Oct. 31 at United Center in Chicago. It’s worth noting each tour stop will include multiple shows in each city.
This Sunday (Feb. 11), Usher will headline Apple Music’s Super Bowl LVIII Halftime Show in Las Vegas, Nevada. He will make history as the first independent artist to ever headline a Super Bowl halftime show.
