BJ the Chicago Kid Announces ‘The Gravy Tour’ Dates

R&B

BJ The Chicago Kid has unveiled the dates for his headlining Gravy Tour to support his latest album, Gravy.

The tour kicks off April 27 at Birchmere Music Hall in Alexandria, Virginia. From there, BJ will perform in major U.S. cities, including New York, Philadelphia, Chicago and Atlanta, before concluding in Honolulu.

The majority of BJ’s tour stops will include multiple shows in the same city. He will play 12 shows across six days in New York and three shows in Chicago, for instance.

Before BJ embarks on his headlining tour, he will join Ledisi in select cities on The Good Life Tour

As noted above, BJ’s upcoming shows follow his album, Gravy, released last November via Yeti Beats’ Reach The World Records and RCA Records.

Gravy includes features from Philip Bailey of Earth, Wind & Fire, Robert Glasper, Andra Day, Coco Jones, Freddie Gibbs, Chlöe and Cory Henry.

Regarding the album’s title, BJ explained, “I’m sick of soul music having an old name. When you’re in the hood and they love you, they give you a nickname. To me, the nickname of soul music is ‘gravy.’”

He continued, “Gravy smothers, covers and makes everything taste better. The album Gravy is the persona of what the new cool is. It’s that feeling when you’re at your absolute best, got on your best clothes, exuding confidence in every step and word. This project embodies the very essence of how you carry yourself, how you assert your authority, and how you rise to the occasion. In essence, it’s the soul of the music, and in turn, the music becomes the gravy that defines me.”

Gravy was ranked No. 4 on Rated R&B’s 25 Best R&B Albums of 2023 list.
