Tems is back. The Grammy-winning and Oscar-nominated singer/songwriter makes a return with her new song “Me & U.”
It was written by Tems and produced in collaboration with Guiltybeatz.
“Give me one break, I need faith / Faith to believe you / Faith to receive you / Give me something I’m lacking / I don’t need nothing / You are my everything,” Tems sings over the rhythmic R&B-infused atmosphere.
Regarding the inspiration behind her new single, Tems shares, “’Me & U’ is about discovering the real me, building a genuine relationship with the Creator, and gaining a true perception of self.”
Tems also dropped a breathtaking, self-directed video, which was filmed in Malta.
“Me & U” is Tems’ first official single since her 2021 EP, If Orange Was A Place. The five-track project includes the popular singles “Found” featuring Brent Faiyaz and “Replay.”
Around the release of her EP, If Orange Was A Place, Tems earned her first No. 1 on Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hip Airplay chart with “Essence,” Wizkid’s hit song. It remained on top of the chart for 27 weeks.
On Adult R&B Airplay, “Essence” reigned atop for 14 weeks. Earlier this year, Tems topped the same chart for nine weeks as a solo artist with “Free Mind,” a song lifted from her 2020 EP, For Broken Ears.
“Free Mind,” certified platinum (one million equivalent units sold), also became the longest-running No. 1 song for a woman on Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart for 17 weeks. It has amassed over 108 million streams on Spotify.
Tems received an Oscar nomination for Best Original Song this year for “Lift Me Up.” The platinum-selling song was performed by Rihanna and co-written by her for the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack. “Lift Me Up” also topped several Billboard charts, including Adult R&B.
Tems celebrated her first Grammy win this year for Best Melodic Rap Performance with the song “Wait For U,” which features Future and Drake.
At the same ceremony, Tems received a nomination for Album of the Year for her contribution to Beyoncé’s hit album Renaissance, which was released in July 2022.
On Oct. 29, Tems will perform the ONE MusicFest, headlined by Kendrick Lamar. Later this fall, she will also be playing at the inaugural Honeyland Festival, where Mary J. Blige will be headlining.
