Jordan Hawkins is cranking out more tunes. The self-proclaimed R&B Rockstar has shared “Bad Gurl,” a new song that he wrote and produced himself.
Hawkins skillfully uses his flexible voice to praise a foxy woman who effortlessly caught his eye on the hazy, alternative R&B track. He also oscillates between singing and rapping, lusting over her “candy lips and ‘dem sugar hips.”
“Bad Gurl” is the second track from Hawkins this month. He tapped genre-bending act Duckwrth for his song “Can’t Fake What You Feel.” The latter song, which the two wrote in collaboration with Mack Keane, is among Hawkins’ trending songs on Spotify.
All two songs come after Hawkins released his 4Play EP in April. The nine-track set included his Phabo-assisted track “Timeless” and “Screamin’” featuring Reggie Becton.
Last summer, Hawkins released “Super Power” as the lead single for 4Play. The song includes two versions, one of which is an acoustic version that closes out the EP.
Speaking on 4Play, Hawkins told Rated R&B, “Trying to find love in LA let alone anywhere in the world is never straightforward. 4Play details the evolution of a relationship fueled by sex, lust, and passion. Starting at a party and ending with the question ‘What are we?’ 4Play encapsulates stories from my life that I’m sure others will be able to relate to.”
4Play follows Hawkins’ debut project, Heart Won’t Stop, released in 2021. He elaborated on the release with Rated R&B.
“The Heart Won’t Stop EP is a collection of stories from my love life in Los Angeles. Deeper love has always inspired me to make more meaningful music and relationships definitely inspired the bulk of the EP,” Hawkins stated to Rated R&B.
