Maxwell Shares Update on Long-Awaited Sixth Album

R&B

Maxwell has hinted at his sixth studio album, blacksummers’NIGHT, in a recent social media post. The legendary singer, songwriter and producer shared his third and final installment in a trilogy started in 2009 is still on the way.

“That_NIGHT music takes time; she dressing,” Maxwell wrote in a tweet for a photo of a half moon with light illuminating underneath.

It was announced in November 2021 Maxwell parted ways with his longtime label, Columbia Records, and teamed with BMG with his Musze imprint. He will release blacksummers’NIGHT via his new deal.

The steamy tune “Off” followed later that month as the first result of the new partnership. It soared to No. 1 on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart, marking his eighth chart-topper on the list.

Prior to this, Maxwell began the launch for blacksummers’NIGHT with its planned lead single “Shame” in October 2019. This mid-tempo track earned its place as his 14th top-10 single on the Adult R&B chart. It reached the No. 8 spot and remained the chart for a total of 20 weeks.

It is currently unclear whether the songs “Off” or “Shame” will be included in the official tracklist for blacksummers’NIGHT.

Beyond musical releases, Maxwell has been actively touring and connecting with his fans in recent years. He is preparing for NIGHT, The Trilogy Show, a three-night residency in Las Vegas, along with other performances across the country.

Starting Aug. 9, the Encore Theater at Wynn Las Vegas will host Maxwell’s three-night concert series.

Afterward, in September, he is set to make a special appearance, alongside Mariah Carey, at the Hip Hop Forever concert, which Mary J. Blige and Tyrese will headline.

Later this fall, Maxwell will return for the third time to The Kennedy Center for a four-night stint of symphony shows. The shows are scheduled from Oct. 11 to 14 in Washington, D.C.

That’s not all. Maxwell recently announced his inaugural four-night cruise, titled Maxwell’s Urban Hang Suite Cruise. It sets sail from Feb. 10, 2024, through Feb. 14, 2024, on the Norwegian Pearl.

In addition to Maxwell’s performances, there will be live music from Musiq Soulchild, Ledisi, Robert Glasper, Leela James, Sabrina Claudio, and Gallant. Ticket information for Maxwell’s cruise and his shows on land are available at musze.com
