Mahalia has finally released her sophomore album, IRL, via Atlantic Records.
The 13-track album includes the previously shared tracks “Terms and Conditions,” “Cheat” featuring JoJo and “Ready.” In addition to JoJo, the album features Joyce Wrice (“In My Head”), Destin Conrad (“Wassup”), Stormzy (“November”) and Kojey Radical (“Wassup”).
“This is a real reflection of the journeys I’ve had, what actually happened, and a celebration of everyone who got me there. There are names and family members I mention because it all helped in shaping who I am,” shares Mahalia about her album, which is an acronym for ‘in real life.’ “I’m so proud of this album, and so proud of how much I challenged myself to just let those stories out.”
The British singer-songwriter hopes IRL will inspire listeners to reflect on their real-life situations, too. “We’re all fixated on how we can make ourselves better but I want people to also reminisce on lovely or painful situations they’ve lived through and how they’ve helped shape the people they are now,” states Mahalia.
IRL is the follow-up to Mahalia’s 2019 debut album, Love and Compromise. The album featured her Ella Mai-assisted single “What You Did,” which has over 108 million streams on Spotify, as well as “Regular People” featuring Hamzaa and Lucky Daye.
On Oct. 8, Mahalia will launch her headlining In Real Life Tour at O2 Academy in Leeds, U.K.
From there, she will play across the U.K. and Europe, hitting cities such as Glasgow, Manchester, London, Paris and Amsterdam. The tour concludes Nov. 7 at Columbia Theatre in Berlin, Germany.
