Grammy-nominated singer Jorja Smith has announced her sophomore album, Falling or Flying, arrives Sept. 29 via FAMM.
Smith’s forthcoming album, Falling or Flying, was recorded in Walsall, England, her hometown, alongside elusive producer DAMEDAME* for over two years.
“This album is like my brain. There’s always so much going on but each song is definitely a standstill moment.” Smith says.
Smith continues, “It touches on breakups, relationships with my friends, relationships with old friends, relationships with myself. It’s definitely about a lot of relationships, but every song I write I can sing it to myself.”
Falling or Flying will contain 16 tracks, two of which were shared ahead of this announcement. “Try Me,” the drum-ejected lead single, was released in April alongside a music video directed by Amber Grace Johnson.
Last week, Smith issued “Little Things” as the second offering from Falling or Flying. Rated R&B described the new song as “floor-shaking jazz that is so good you won’t want to leave the dance floor.”
Falling or Flying is Smith’s second full-length album and third project overall. It follows 2021’s Be Right Back and 2018’s Lost & Found.
The former was a hold-over project, while the latter was her debut album that won acclaim from critics, including Rated R&B, at year-end.
On Sept. 28, the day before Smith releases Falling or Flying, she will begin a series of limited engagement shows in the U.K. and European territories.
The four-date itinerary starts at PRYZM in Kingston upon Thames, England, and ends Oct. 9 at SWX in Bristol, England.
Smith has collaborated with Banquet Records and local Rough Trade Records stores to present select album launch shows. Tickets and more information about the upcoming shows are available at jorjasmith.com.
