LaTocha Shares Solo Album ‘The Invitation: A Conversation With God’

R&B

After much anticipation, LaTocha of Xscape has released her debut solo album, The Invitation: A Conversation with God. She hyped the gospel record on SWV & Xscape: The Queen of R&B, a six-episode limited series airing as part of Bravo’s Sunday lineup.

The Invitation: A Conversation with God was released on LaTocha’s Made Girl Music imprint in partnership with Motown Gospel/Capitol CMG. She announced the deal earlier this year.

Of the deal, LaTocha said, “It has always been a passion of mine to do inspirational music. It has been my foundation, and that is very evident, even when I sing R&B music. I can’t escape that.”

LaTocha’s first solo album includes the singles “Stay With Me,” “I’m Yours” and “Afraid.” The former track, released as the lead single, arrived with a stunning accompanying visual.

Regarding the video concept for “Stay With Me,” LaTocha explained, “I wanted the video to be a live performance because that is what I am most comfortable with and I feel like that is where I connect with my fans the most.”

“Afraid” is the current focus track from The Invitation: A Conversation with God. It’s been among the most added songs at R&B radio.

Due to demand, the song debuted at No. 27 on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart this week (April 8). It also entered at No. 24 on Billboard’s Hot Gospel Songs chart.

“Music has been my passion and saving grace for as long as I can remember,” says LaTocha. “Even throughout my R&B career, I’ve always made it a point to give God the praise for he is whom all my blessings flow, so to now be at a point where I’m able to marry my passion for music and with my love and devotion for God, I couldn’t be more proud of this full circle moment.”

Noted earlier, LaTocha is featured on Bravo’s hit series SWV & Xscape: The Queen of R&B. The show, centered around producing a one-night-only concert featuring the two iconic groups, has drawn lots of conversation online. The series finale episode airs on Sunday, April 9, at 8 p.m. ET.
