Beyoncé has now officially entered the 2022 Oscar race. The music icon has shared the new song “Be Alive” that she co-wrote and co-produced with Dixson for King Richard, the forthcoming biopic based on the true story of Richard Williams, the coach father of Serena and Venus Williams.
“I got a million miles on me / They want to see how far I’ll go / The path was never paved with gold / We worked and built this on our own,” she sings.
“Be Alive” makes for a possible Best Original Song contender in the road to the 2022 Oscars. Beyoncé almost secured a nod in this category in 2020 with “Spirit,” taken from the soundtrack to the live-action remake of The Lion King.
The track, short-listed in last year’s Best Original Song contest, also appeared on The Lion King: The Gift, Beyoncé’s full-length album contribution to the film.
King Richards, starring Will Smith as Richard, arrives in theaters and on HBO Max November 19.
Beyoncé celebrated two album milestones this year, including the fifth anniversary of Lemonade and 15 years since the release of B’Day. Her last project, Black Is King, arrived in July 2020, and served as a companion film to a Disney+ exclusive of the same title.
