After 7 Releases New Album ‘Unfinished Business’

R&B

After 7 has Unfinished Business to tend to on their new album. It’s the group’s first album since 2016’s Timeless and a tribute to founding member Melvin Edmonds, who died in 2019.

The group’s current roster — Kevon Edmonds, Keith Mitchell, and Danny ‘SkyHigh’ McClain — rework familial soundbites from Melvin and break them up into three interludes.

Unfinished Business opens with “Extra Mile,” a sweet serenade about doing a little more to get the woman of their dreams. “Sing A Love Song” helps express commitment to those who prefer to do so through crooning, while “When Was The Last Time,” a pondering guitar-laden tune, captures the sophisticated spirit of Avant.

The album features an appearance from music veteran Stokley and includes the early singles “No Place Like You” and “Bittersweet.” This week on the Billboard Adult R&B Airplay chart, the latter track is No. 9, following last week’s position at No. 11.
