Jillian Shriner, the wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner, has appeared in court over a shooting case.

Shriner, who is a best-selling author who publishes under the pen name Jillian Lauren, was taken into custody on April 8 after sustaining a non-life-threatening gunshot wound from a police officer.

A statement from the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) said that the police had been pursuing an unrelated hit-and-run car chase, when one of the suspects tried to enter Shriner’s property. There, the author allegedly fired at the suspect and then pointed her gun at officers and refused to lower it when asked.

An “officer-involved shooting” then occurred, with Shriner being shot in the shoulder by a member of the police.

She was taken to the hospital for treatment and then into custody. She was then “booked for attempted murder”, the LAPD confirmed, and a 9mm handgun was recovered from her house.

Bodycam and security footage released by the LAPD appeared to show Shriner racking and firing a gun while standing in her back garden. Lauren was then released on $1million bail (£749,092) and told that she would have to appear in court again on Wednesday June 18, for a preliminary hearing.

Now, she has appeared in court and has been granted a delay in her LAPD shooting case. The 51-year-old pleaded not guilty to the charges, and outlets including xrock1039 have reported that her defence attorney requested additional time to review video evidence before the key hearing.

The judge agreed to this and granted the extra time. Following Lauren agreeing to the postponement, a follow-up hearing is scheduled for July 22.

Weezer played a live set at Coachella 2025 shortly after the incident, having been added to the line-up the week prior. The bassist did not address the incident during their performance. He did, though, comment on the situation ahead of the slot and simply say: “She’s alright, thank you for asking.”
