Watch: Slipknot Tease the ‘Knotverse,’ Whatever That Is

Metal

At this point, there is a short list of metal bands who have the means and agency to do literally whatever the fuck they want, and Slipknot are near the top of it. The nine-assed sonic sex scorpion have proved time and time again that they have their finger on the pulse of the maggots, and can be as grandiose and creative as they like to the sound of thunderous applause. Which is why the band’s newly posted teaser for ‘Knotverse’ is really open to any sort of interpretation imaginable.

As you’ll see below, Slipknot posted a video in which the word ‘Knotfest’ morphs briefly into the word ‘Knotverse’ while “742617000027,” the opening track from the band’s 1999 debut, plays behind it.

The tweet includes the caption, “Probably nothing…” which is the same slogan being used by The Sandbox, which The Pit describes as “a community-driven platform where creators can monetize voxel ASSETS and gaming experiences on the blockchain.” Apparently, the company’s partners include Avenged Sevenfold, Snoop Dogg, and The Walking Dead franchise.

So is Knotverse an online community? Is it like Second Life in the Slipknot universe? And if so, what are the planes, or levels, or scenarios therein? Is one a jar with a giant dead crow in it? Can you buy fictional burritos at a place called Tortilla Man? Or is it just a digital Des Moines, and you’re a waiter serving brunch at The Machine Shed?
