Video: Rapper Danny Brown Performs Terrible Cover of Korn’s “Freak on a Leash”

Metal

Like everyone else in the world, I really dig Danny Brown’s song “Grown Up.” Not necessarily like everyone else reading this, I am not a fan of Korn, whose music I find to be inoffensive at best.

And yet, this video of Brown covering Korn’s “Freak on a Leash” during a December 15 show in Chicago is the cringiest thing these old eyes have seen since Puddle of Mudd butchered Nirvana’s “About a Girl” last year.

As was the case with the Puddle of Nirvana debacle, the problem here stems largely, if not entirely, from the vocals.

If this was someone imitating Jonathan Davis for Saturday Night Live, you’d think, “Hey, that’s kinda funny.”

If your drunk friend sounded like this during a karaoke session, you’d think, “Hey, that’s pretty good for drunken karaoke.”

As a professional performance for paying fans, you’ll think, “What the actual FUCK, Danny Brown?!?!”

In fact, you may be tempted to turn off the video fairly quickly, because, as I’ve said, it’s terrible.

But I must implore you to keep watching at least until the scat section, at which point Brown is joined but what appears to be a Jonathan Davis cosplayer. Alas, he’s not even a good cosplayer — he got the color of the jumpsuit all wrong.

Sorry/you’re welcome:
