Seems like there’s a little interband competition with the members of Ohio sludge/stoner/doom lords Moontemple as to who can grow the mightiest beard. What they lack in locks, they make up for in crumb-catching whiskers. We only know this from the new video for their latest single, “Horus,” which is a straight performance vid shot on what looks like a theater stage. The tune is a galluping, very Mastodon-inspired rumbler, loaded with killer guitar harmonies and Egyptian mythology inspired lyrics. These Dayton scene vets—Brian Whitten (guitars), JBird Smith (drums), Justin Roseberry (guitar/vocals), Justin Kellermeier (bass)—have imbued “Horus” with massive drop-tuned grooves and just enough melody to lodge this one right into your brainpan.

The video was shot and directed by Shaman Gibson, with Rosabell Gibson providing lighting and live sound  by Bill Whitten. “Horus” was recorded at Room 33 in Dayton, Ohio and was released digitally on February 6. You can find it and more at the Moontemple Bandcamp page here. Also check out the band’s upcoming live dates listed below the video.

The band had to say about its new single:

“‘Horus’ is the first single from the concept album, Heavens. The album embodies all ways of leaving Earth, whether it is literally, figuratively or spiritually. The single is a tribute to Egyptian mythology and is a retelling of the story of Horus.”

LIVE DATES:

4/18 Kent, OH @ Zypher Pub

4/19 Pittsburgh, PA @ Squirrel Hill Sports Bar

4/25 Cincinnati, OH @ Binski Bar

5/14 Cincinnati, OH @ w/ Legions Of Doom (ex Corrosion or Conformity, Trouble, Pentagram) @ Madison Live
