Victoria Monét’s ‘On My Mama’ Hits No. 1 at Rhythmic Radio

R&B

Victoria Monét has taken over another radio chart. The three-time Grammy winner’s hit single “On My Mama” has reached No. 1 at rhythmic radio, knocking Jack Harlow’s “Lovin On Me” to No. 2.

The 2000s-inspired track received 5,883 spins this week with an audience impression of 16.2 million, according to Mediabase.

“WOW!! ON MY MAMA just went #1 at Rhythmic radio officially TODAY!! Off to an amazing start,” Monét wrote on social media. “GOD!!!! Thank you to my incredible radio team at RCA and all of you lovely radio programmers Dj’s and hosts who have been rocking with this song! Means the world to me.”

“On My Mama” is Monét’s first chart-topper at rhythmic radio. The song, produced by Deputy, D’Mile and Jeff Gitelman, reached No. 1 at urban radio last November, becoming Monét’s first song to reach that peak on any airplay format.

On Billboard, “On My Mama” is No. 2 on the Adult R&B Airplay chart this week. The chart is led by Mary J. Blige’s hit “Still Believe in Love” for a seventh consecutive week.

Regarding her single, Monét explained:” ‘On My Mama’ is the soundtrack to positive affirmations. I wrote it postpartum when I wasn’t feeling my best, but spoke to how I wanted to feel. Singing the lyrics about yourself will change your frequency, and elevate a positive mental state.”

She added, “The words speak not only to physical features, but to a feeling too because I believe when you feel good you look even better! Give yourself the words you need to hear because it’s true, you look good! There’s no one like you and that’s on ya mama. Enjoy being yourself witcha fine ass!”

“On My Mama” is lifted from Monét’s debut album, JAGUAR II, released Aug. 25, 2023, via RCA Records. The album debuted at No. 6 on Billboard’s Top R&B Albums, securing Monét her first top 10 on this chart.

JAGUAR II was an album that was made over the course of four years… The biggest takeaway I wanted people to have with JAGUAR II was the dynamic of a female. The dynamic, the diversity, and the versatility and the thoughts that we also have, again that are maybe normalized more so as male,” Monét told MTV. “I am hoping that it is something that feels timeless and classic that people will want to revisit in 10 years, 20 years down the line.”

JAGUAR II scored Monét’s first three Grammys at the 66th Grammy Awards last Sunday. Monét took home trophies for Best New Artist, Best R&B Album, and Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical.

During her acceptance speech for Best New Artist, Monét said: “This award was a 15-year pursuit. I moved to LA in 2009, and I like to liken myself to a plant who was planted. You can look at the music industry as soil. It can be looked at as dirty, or it can be looked at as a source of nutrients and water. My roots have been growing underneath the ground unseen for so long. I feel like today I am sprouting finally above ground.”

The 55th NAACP Image Awards airs Saturday, March 16, at 8 p.m. ET on BET and CBS.

Monét will perform at the Coachella Music Festival in Indio, California, in April.
