Usher‘s ninth album, Coming Home, secures him his first nomination in the Best R&B Album category for the 67th Grammy Awards in 2025.
Coming Home is also Usher’s first independently released album considered for a Grammy.
The album, released in February via Usher’s mega imprint in partnership with gamma., belongs to a category that includes both his contemporaries and newcomers. See the complete list of nominees below.
Best R&B Album – 2024 Nominees
Some may find it surprising that Usher has received his first-ever nomination for Best R&B Album after a prolific career that includes eight previous albums.
As an eight-time honoree with 24 nominations overall, Usher has previously scored recognition for two other full-length releases in the R&B field—specifically in the now-retired Best Contemporary R&B Album category, which has been renamed Best Progressive R&B Album.
Usher’s 14x platinum album, Confessions, took home Best Contemporary R&B Album at the 47th Grammy Awards in 2005. The blockbuster album was recently reissued as a 20th anniversary edition.
He won two other awards that night, including Best Rap/Sun Collaboration (“Yeah!” featuring Ludacris and Lil Jon) and Best R&B Performance By A Duo or Group with Vocals (“My Boo” with Alicia Keys).
In 2011, Usher won the Best Contemporary R&B Album for Raymond v Raymond (2010) and Best Male R&B Vocal Performance for “There Goes My Baby.”
Usher was the last recipient of the former award before it became dormant the following year and was renamed Best Urban Contemporary Album the year after that.
Coming Home debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top R&B Albums chart and featured the hit singles “Good Good” with Summer Walker and 21 Savage and “Risk It All” featuring H.E.R.
The previous song, produced by Mel & Mus, dominated three different radio formats: urban, R&B, and rhythmic.
“Good Good” also achieved a six-week non-consecutive run atop Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart, where it remained in the top 10 for 51 weeks.
Later in February, Usher issued Coming Home as an expanded edition featuring two more tracks.
“COMING HOME is an ode to going back to your roots, whatever or wherever that may be,” Usher said. “I’m COMING HOME to where I’m comfortable in being exactly who I am right now. My hope is that you identify with the new album no matter where you are or what you’re going through, too.”
Amid his Grammy nomination, Usher is headlining his Past Present Future Tour. The first leg of the tour, which is currently taking place nationwide, will conclude on Dec. 19 at the Kaseya Center in Miami.
Usher will commence the Europe/UK leg in April 2025.
