For the uninitiated (this scribe included), Haurun is an Egyptian protector god of magic and healing. Or so the interhole tells us. This Haurun, however, is a heavy, doomy psych outfit from Oakland, CA, offering up a new track, “Lost & Found,” from their debut full-length, Wilting Within. The single from the five-piece—Lyra Cruz (vocals), Joel Paul Lacey (bass), Daniel Schwiderski (guitar), Joel Panton (guitar), Eliot Rennie (drums)—is a slow-rolling, laconic floater with light, melodic verses contrasted against heavy, fuzzed-out guitar chords and a fiery ending solo. The nearly six-minute epic is a showcase for Cruz’s haunting, disaffected vocals that laze over the meandering track.

Wilting Within was recorded and engineered by Phil Becker at El Studio in San Francisco. Eric Hoegemeyer at the Tree Laboratory in Brooklyn, New York and Chris Goosman at Baseline Audio in Ann Arbor, Michigan did mixing and mastering. It’s set for release on CD and digitally via Small Stone Recordings and on limited vinyl via Kozmik Artifactz on September 22. Place your preorder here.

Here’s what the band’s label had to say about the new single:

“‘Lost & Found’ is an epic showcase of Haurun’s dynamic songwriting, where haunting verses collide with crushing guitars. Prepare to be entranced by the amalgamation of atmospheric doom and the enchanting tone of Lyra’s vocal, transporting you to a place where despair and transcendence converge.”
