Track Premiere: Domkraft – “Whispers”

Metal

Prepare to widen your mind’s eye and take an acid-tinged journey through the cosmos with Sweden’s Domkraft.

Formed in 2014 with an aim to craft heavy music with a psych-filled twinge, the outfit have released three albums, two EPs and one split record ahead of their latest opus, Sonic Moons, available September 8 through Magnetic Eye Records (pre-order here).

Decibel proudly debuts Domkraft’s latest single/video for the doomy, fuzz soaked slammer, “Whispers.”

“‘Whispers’ is not quite as subtle as the title suggests, but it’s not all upper case riff-o-rama during its nine minutes either. We wanted a touch of weightlessness while keeping the pounding grooves to create a creeping sense of forward motion,” shared singer/bassist Martin Wegeland.

“To me, the mid-section solo is the centerpiece of the track and really showcases the wide range of Martin’s influences as a guitarist. And the harmonies, together with the different energies and densities of the song, makes it fairly representative of what the album is about:  Confined energy and release.”

The band returned to Welfare Sounds Studio on the outskirts of Gothenburg to once again collaborate with studio heads Kalle Lilja and Per Stålberg and mix artist Karl Daniel Lidén (Greenleaf, Katatonia, Lowrider).

The merging of the trio of Wegeland, guitarist Martin Windholm and drummer Anders Dahlgren was born from a mutual love of era greats Spacemen 3, Monster Magnet, Sleep and Hawkwind, birthing a heavy, riff filled combination of doom and heavy rock with mind-pending psych touches that have endeared them to fans the world over.
