Tori Kelly has released her eponymous EP, tori, via Epic Records.
The seven-track EP was preceded by the lead single, “missin u,” which arrived in March. The project also includes features from Ayra Starr and Jon Bellion.
Among the project’s standouts is the opening track, “cut,” which sounds like it was created at the height of the Y2K R&B movement — contributions from Timbaland and Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins are the icing on the cake.
On “Shelter,” another highlight on the project, Kelly assures her lover that she will be by his side through the ups and downs.
“When you got one life left inside of you / And you got too much on your plate / What you need is someone to carry you I’ma hold it down for ya / I could be your shelter,” Kelly sings.
Tori arrives just days after the singer was hospitalized for blood clots after passing out at a restaurant. Despite her health scare, Kelly didn’t want to delay her planned project’s release.
She shared a handwritten letter to her fans via Instagram. “Of course, I’m heartbroken about all the things I had planned for this week of releasing my EP, but I know my health must come first. I won’t let this hurdle prevent the music from being yours on Friday!” Kelly wrote.
Tori is Kelly’s first project since her 2020 holiday album, A Tori Kelly Christmas. It was released three months after her Solitude EP. Before that, she released her third album, Inspired by True Events, in 2019.
