In April 2001, a then-new artist named Alicia Keys released her debut single “Fallin’” as the lead track from her debut album, Songs In A Minor.
During the week of August 18, 2001, “Fallin’” reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, bumping Destiny’s Child’s chart-topper “Bootylicious” to No. 5.
“Fallin’,” which was written and produced by Keys, remained the top song in the country for six weeks.
The piano-driven tune earned Keys three Grammy Awards at the 44th ceremony in 2002, including Song of the Year, Best Female R&B Vocal Performance and Best R&B Song. She also took home trophies for Best New Artist and Best R&B Album (Songs In A Minor). Keys made history as the first R&B singer to win Best New Artist and Song of the Year in one ceremony.
