The Sword Cover David Bowies Space Oddity: Watch

Metal

We knew they wouldn’t be gone forever and oh, how lovely it is to have them back to us. When The Sword said back in 2022 that they were disbanding after almost 20 years, I feel like we all collectively said “fuck that noise.” Then they came back in 2024, and everything felt right again. THEN, they went on tour commemorating the 15th anniversary of their 2010 concept album Warp Riders, where attendees likely heard their take on a fairly familiar un-metal song—David Bowie’s “Space Oddity.”

Eventually, they got to a point where they felt like they really nailed it—presumably, the final stop on the tour at the end of October—because they released a new video earlier today of them performing it in Nashville. The video, filmed by Cameron Kisel (with audio recording by Buddy Hachar and mixing by Bryan Richie), is beautifully hued in blue, which kinda allows for you to dissolve into the heavy sounds.

Go ahead and give it a gander.
