The Lemon Twigs‘ Brian D’Addario has shared his amorous new single ‘Till The Morning’ from his debut solo album of the same name.
The romantic track is reminiscent of early Kinks tracks with a blend of The Beatles and Bob Dylan sounds. The song features a prominent bass line, a retro-sounding piano and D’Addario singing: “Your lips they surround me in a halo of dreams / They show me things my eyes never could’ve seen / Like the tombstone raider who shined on Gallali / Whose candle burnt brightly till the morning,” discussing beautiful moments within a relationship.
Directed by his brother and Lemon Twigs bandmate, Michael D’Addario, ‘Till The Morning’s accompanying video sees Brian playing the guitar and singing the song in a park surrounded by foliage.
Speaking about the song in a press release, Brian shared: “It’s a love song having to do with those fleeting moments when you grasp something real, amidst all the noise and propaganda. ‘The night is pitch black until the morning.’ Maybe things need to completely collapse before they get better.”
The song marks the lead single from Brian’s forthcoming debut solo album of the same name. ‘Till the Morning’ was produced by both Brian and Michael D’Addario and was not born out of any desire to break away from the group. Michael co-produced the album, sang harmony and co-sung lead on two of the songs on the LP.
‘Till The Morning’ was written and recorded in multiple studios and states and was united by themes of spiritual longing, isolation, social responsibility, karma and loss. Brian explained “When I started putting this album together, it really hung together musically and thematically. It’s country baroque.” ‘Till The Morning’ is set for release on March 20 via Headstock Records. You can pre-order the album here.
‘Till The Morning’ tracklist is:
1. ‘Till the Morning’
2. ‘Song of Everyone’
3. ‘Nothing On My Mind’
4. ‘One Day I’m Coming Home’
5. ‘Only To Ease My Mind’
6. ‘Flash in the Pan’
7. ‘Company’
8. ‘This Summer’
9. ‘What You Are Is Beautiful’
10. ‘Useless Tears’
11. ‘Spirit Without a Home’
‘Till the Morning’ also features two collaborations with LA poet Stephen Kalinich who is known for his work with The Beach Boys. Speaking about the collaboration, Brian said: “I met Stephen in 2017 after playing some of our first shows in LA. I was such a fan of his work and was struck by his dynamism and personality. He was dressed in all bright orange; in his words ‘like a pumpkin!’
“For a while he was sending me poems and asking me to put music to them. When I read the words to ‘What You Are Is Beautiful’, it felt very musical and as soon I picked up the guitar it flowed easily. It was the same case about a year later when he sent ‘Song Of Everyone.’”
The Lemon Twigs’ last release was 2024’s ‘A Dream Is All We Know‘. In a four-star review of the LP, NME shared: “‘A Dream Is All We Know’, the siblings’ mostly self-produced fifth studio album, sees them revel in Beach Boys harmonies and off-kilter melodies (think the Beatles when they were starting to get weird). Somehow, they manage to act as if all this has never been done before – and herein lies much of their appeal.
“At 25 and 27 respectively, Michael and Brian continue to harness an endearing naivety that carries you past any accusations of unoriginality. ‘The album’s aiming for something timeless,’ Michael recently told Mojo, and it’s impressive how often this record lives up to that ambition.”
In other news, The Lemon Twigs are set to play at this year’s edition of Kilby Block Party and Governors Ball.
