R&B

SZA will appear on Apple Music Live as the musical guest on Wednesday, Dec. 13, at 10 p.m. ET on Apple Music and Apple TV+.

The concert will feature performances captured over two nights in October at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. The shows were part of her SOS Tour‘s extended leg.

As part of the Apple Music Live performance, SZA will perform music from her acclaimed sophomore album, SOS, including “Snooze” and “Kill Bill.”

The former, co-written by Leon Thomas and Babyface, is up for Best R&B Song at the 2024 Grammys and topped the Mainstream Top 40 radio chart. The latter hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and is also nominated for multiple 2024 Grammys.

SZA’s Apple Music Live set will also include “Broken Clocks,” “Love Galore” and “Drew Barrymore.” Each record is lifted from her blockbuster 2017 debut LP, Ctrl, which was expanded on its fifth anniversary in 2022.

Apple Music’s Global Head of Hip Hop and R&B Ebro Darden, stated, “SZA is one the most streamed artists of 2023 with only her second full length album, so we are elated to have her SOS Tour be apart of our 2023 season of Apple Music Live.”

Darden added, “The show is, of course, incredible just like her music, her songwriting and her desire to give us, the fans, so much amazing content this year. Thank You SZA!”

Ahead of her Apple Music Live performance, a broadcast of SZA’s exclusive interview with Zane Lowe of Apple Music will be available to stream. The interview will debut at 1 p.m. ET on Apple Music 1.

SZA has been on cloud nine since the December 2022 release of SOS, her second studio album. The LP debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, selling 318,000 equivalent units in its first week.

At this publishing, SOS has been at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top R&B Albums chart for 50 weeks, making history as the longest-running No. 1 on that chart. SOS broke The Weeknd’s previously held record of 40 weeks atop that chart with 2020’s After Hours, by reaching the 41st week mark.

According to Apple Music, SOS was the No. 1 R&B album of the year and the second biggest album on Apple Music worldwide.

Elsewhere, SZA set a record for the R&B artist with the most simultaneous entries on the Global Daily Top 100, with 26 songs reaching the chart in one day.

Additionally, SZA Essentials is experiencing a 203% increase in streams on Apple Music, making it one of the fastest-growing R&B playlists on the platform.

In recent news, SZA received nine nominations at the 2024 Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year for SOS, as well as Record of the Year, and Song of the Year for “Kill Bill.” She is the most nominated artist this awards season.

The announcement of SZA’s Apple Music Live concert comes on the heels of her seemingly teasing six alternative artworks for the deluxe edition of SOS, titled Lana. However, the official release date has not been shared yet.

SZA had previously teased the updated version of SOS in September at an album celebration event in Brooklyn, New York.

SZA informed the audience in a fan-captured video that the deluxe version will be released in fall. “So the deluxe is like a whole ‘nother album, and it’s called Lana. It’s seven to 10 songs, and it’ll be out this fall,” SZA, whose real name is Solana Rowe, told the crowd.
