Metal

We’d like to take a moment to announce that after a 168 hours apart, we’ve decided to welcome the weekend back into the fold. We’re thankful for the contributions that the weekdays have given us, but it just feels right to have the weekend back after being apart for what feels like forever.

Autopsy

Ashes, Organs, Blood And Crypts (Peaceville Records)

Having only released an album a year ago with Morbidity Triumphant, Autopsy are back with yet another slate of prime cut grotesque death metal. Ashes, Organs, Blood And Crypts picks up right where that last record left off, with each song dripping in enough blood and bile to drown a small horse. After nearly four decades of doing this shit, it just goes to show that when you absolutely need to punish your senses, turn straight to Autopsy and accept no substitutes.

Mouth For War

Bleed Yourself (MNRK Heavy)

Colorado-based metalcore outfit Mouth For War are back with their second full-length studio album, Bleed Yourself. As their debut on MNRK Heavy, this record is just a slab of sonic catharsis, as each of its 13 tracks serve as an outlet for misanthropic rage and despair. With breakdowns that slap you right across the face and demand you wake the fuck up, Mouth For War have an album that’s sure to be a highlight of the month for metalcore fans everywhere.

Spiritbox

The Fear of Fear (Pale Chord Music/Rise Records)

Keeping their yearly release schedule alive, Canadian alt-metal quartet Spiritbox are back with a new EP titled The Fear of Fear. After a little bit of internet shenanigans leading up to the EP’s announcement, the band is using this six-song release to build upon their 2021 album Eternal Blue. Listen, you know whether you like these guys already or not, so check this one out if it’s your cuppa tea and if not, just move on to the next one.

Wayfarer

American Gothic (Century Media/Profound Lore)

If you’ve ever wondered “what would you get if you mix black metal with Americana and Red Dead Redemption II,” Wayfarer’s American Gothic is the haunting and thunderous answer. Hailing from Denver, Colorado, this album should have served as the soundtrack to Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon. If traditional black metal is cold and distant, Wayfarer’s American Gothic is dusty, hot, and smells distinctly like gunpowder, just like America’s rolling plains.

No Love Lost (Pure Noise Records)

Suffice it to say, this band’s been through the ringer over the last few months thanks to a traumatic bus accident, so today’s release has to be a fulfilling one for everyone involved. As we said in our review, No Love Lost is proof that the band is “sharply honed in now, leaving no breathing room in any of their songs—and that’s a good thing.” Each track is a punch to the solar plexus and when you add killer guest spots from the likes of Full of Hell’s Dylan Walker and Sanguisugabogg’s Devin Swank, you have an absolutely wild offering. It’s important to note that the proceeds from this album’s sales will go directly to helping pay the band’s medical costs and the like, so definitely buy this one if you can.
