Country

Shaboozey has officially made history on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart, securing his place among country’s most dominant chart-toppers. His crossover smash “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” just notched its 35th consecutive week at No. 1, surpassing Sam Hunt’s “Body Like a Back Road” to become the longest-leading country No. 1 by a solo act since the chart was established in 1958.

For context, only Bebe Rexha and Florida Georgia Line’s 2017 hit “Meant to Be” has held the top spot longer, reigning for 50 weeks.

“‘A Bar Song’ totaled 59.8 million in all-format airplay audience, 16.2 million official U.S. streams, and 4,000 sold Feb. 14-20,” Billboard reports. The song’s continued success across multiple formats proves that country music’s pop crossover era is far from over.

A Run for the Record Books

Shaboozey, whose real name is Collins Obinna Chibueze, first hit No. 1 on Hot Country Songs in May 2024. Since then, the track has gone on to:

  • Tie the all-time record for 19 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100
  • Break the record for 27 weeks atop the all-format Radio Songs chart
  • Top the Country Airplay chart for seven weeks, marking the longest reign for a debut entry

What makes “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” truly unprecedented is its multi-format dominance. The song became the first country track ever to land in the Top 5 of Country Airplay, Pop Airplay, Adult Pop Airplay, and Rhythmic Airplay—a feat that speaks to its genre-blurring appeal.

Historic Back-to-Back No. 1s for Black Artists

The song’s historic rise also marked another milestone in country music history. When “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” first claimed the Hot Country Songs throne, it unseated Beyoncé’s viral hit “Texas Hold ‘Em”—marking the first time ever that two Black artists have led the chart back-to-back.

The 10 Longest-Leading No. 1s on Hot Country Songs

With Shaboozey’s 35-week streak, here’s how the longest-running country No. 1s stack up:

  1. 50 weeks – “Meant to Be” – Bebe Rexha & Florida Georgia Line (2017)
  2. 35 weeks – “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” – Shaboozey (2024)
  3. 34 weeks – “Body Like a Back Road” – Sam Hunt (2017)
  4. 27 weeks – “I Hope” – Gabby Barrett (2020)
  5. 25 weeks – “Last Night” – Morgan Wallen (2023)
  6. 24 weeks – “Fancy Like” – Walker Hayes (2021)
  7. 24 weeks – “Cruise” – Florida Georgia Line (2012)
  8. 21 weeks – “10,000 Hours” – Dan + Shay & Justin Bieber (2019)
  9. 20 weeks – “I Remember Everything” – Zach Bryan feat. Kacey Musgraves (2023)
  10. 19 weeks – “You Proof” – Morgan Wallen (2022)

With no signs of slowing down, the question now is: Can “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” make a run for the all-time record?

What do you think? Is Shaboozey redefining what country music can be, or is this another example of pop influence taking over the genre? Sound off in the comments!
