Serpentwithfeet Announces New Album ‘GRIP SEQUEL’

R&B

Alt-R&B artist serpentwithfeet is launching the new year with a new project. The singer has announced GRIP SEQUEL, a deluxe edition of his 2024 album GRIP, will release Feb. 28 via Secretly Canadian.

GRIP SEQUEL will feature nine additional tracks, including six new compositions and three alternative versions of songs from GRIP. Among the added tracks are the lead single “Writhing in the Wind,” out today (Jan. 9), and a remix of the Ogi-assisted “Spades” featuring Destin Conrad

Speaking on GRIP SEQUEL, the Baltimore native notes, “I had more so say. I had more questions about intimacy and this was a fun way to explore.”

On the self-penned and produced “Writhing in the Wind,” serpentwithfeet pleads for his partner to forgive him after causing pain. “I’m not who I was then / A mangled heart writhing in the wind / Can I kiss you / I wanna make amends,” he sings over a mellow, Baltimore Club-tinged beat.

Serpentwithfeet describes “Writhing in the Wind” as “the sound of a lover begging. He knows he messed up but desperately wants a second chance.”

GRIP celebrates and fosters the spirit and magic of Black queer nightlife while also honoring the communities that are nurtured within the walls of these intimate spaces and the monumental impact that they have on the lives of many people on the margins,” explained serpentwithfeet.

GRIP marked the follow-up to his 2021 album, DEACONwhich was later reissued with a five-track EP titled DEACON’s GROVEThe latter project featured Ambré and Alex Isley on the “Fellowship (Remix).”

Following DEACON’s GROVE, serpentwithfeet his Heart of Brick tour, a theatrical production that celebrated Black queer nightlife, where he performed music from the then forthcoming GRIP during the show.
