Rumor: Steve Di Giorgio Is the Megadeth Mystery Bassist

Metal

Yesterday, a Cameo video in which Dave Mustaine hinted at the identity of Megadeth’s new bassist made its way onto the web.

Today, the Internet sleuths have done their sleuthin’, and they think they know who the mystery bassist is: Steve Di Giorgio.

The evidence: a shot from the aforementioned Cameo video of the bassist in question’s instrument. Fans have since noted that the bass in the video is the same make and model of Ibanez often played by Di Giorgio.

Assuming it is, indeed, Steve Di Giorgio, he should be greeted by fans with open arms: Di Giorgio, I shouldn’t need to tell you, has had a long, illustrious career in heavy music. He’s currently a member of Testament, and in the past has been a part of such acts as Death, Autopsy, and Sebastian Bach.

Di Giorgio is also [not-so-humble-brag] one of the bassists MetalSucks suggested as a replacement for Ellefson back in May. So. Go us!

Ellefson was fired from Megadeth in May amidst a sex scandal. Mustaine subsequently revealed that Ellefson’s parts for the new ‘Deth record — tentatively titled The Sick, the Dying and the Dead — have been re-recorded by another bassist.

Megadeth begin a tour with Lamb of God, Trivium, and Hatebreed (replacing In Flames) in August, so we should know what’s what sooner rather than later.
