Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 2024 Nominees Announced

The 2024 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame nominees have been revealed. R&B/soul music icons Mary J. Blige, Mariah Carey, Sade and Kool & The Gang are among this year’s nominees. 

Other nominees include Cher, Dave Matthews Band, Eric B. & Rakim, Foreigner, Peter Frampton, Jane’s Addiction, Lenny Kravitz, Oasis, Sinéad O’Connor, Ozzy Osbourne and A Tribe Called Quest.

“This remarkable list of Nominees reflects the diverse artists and music that the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame honors and celebrates,” says John Sykes, chairman of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation.

“Continuing in the true spirit of Rock & Roll, these artists have created their own sounds that have impacted generations and influenced countless others that have followed in their footsteps.”

In order to be eligible for nomination, “an individual artist or band must have released its first commercial recording at least 25 years prior to the year of nomination.”

Ten of the 15 nominees are on the ballot for the first time, including, Carey, Sade, Kravitz, Kool & The Gang, Cher, Foreigner, Frampton, Oasis, O’Connor, and Osbourne. Meanwhile, it’s Blige’s second time on the ballot. She first appeared on the ballot in 2021.

According to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame: “Nominee ballots will be sent to an international voting body of more than 1,000 artists, historians, and members of the music industry. An artist’s musical impact and influence on other artists, length and depth of career and body of work as well as innovation and superiority in style and technique are taken into consideration.”

Inductees will be announced in late April. The 2024 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be hosted in Cleveland, Ohio, this fall. A date and on-sale information will be announced soon.

Last year’s inductees included Chaka Khan, The Spinners, Missy Elliott, Willie Nelson, Sheryl Crow, Kate Bush, George Michael, DJ Kool Herc, Al Kooper and more.

In other news, Blige, who has a new project coming this summer, is set to perform at the 2024 Lovers & Friends Festival in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The star-studded lineup also includes Janet Jackson, Usher, TLC, Alicia Keys, Monica, Gwen Stefani, Backstreet Boys and more. 

Blige’s current single “Still Believe in Love” has spent the last seven weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart. It’s the only song to lead this chart so far this year. 

Blige’s forthcoming project will follow her 2022 Grammy-nominated album, Good Morning Gorgeous, which included the RIAA gold-certified title track.

Carey will also be in Vegas. The Songbird Supreme recently announced The Celebration of Mimi: Live in Las VegasThe eight-night residency at Dolby Live at Park MGM kicks off April 12 and concludes April 27. 

Earlier this month, Carey was honored with the Recording Academy Global Impact Award at the third annual Recording Academy Honors, presented by the Black Music Collective. Lenny Kravitz was also a recipient of the Global Impact Award.
