Rhyan Douglas Shares Debut EP ‘Circles’

R&B

Emerging alt-R&B singer Rhyan Douglas has released his debut EP, Circles, executive produced by Wondagurl and Eli Brown.

The nine-track set includes the previously shared songs “Last Page,” “Young & Reckless,” “Conversations” and “Spin The Block.”

The EP opens with the latter track, where the Canadian artist sings about hoping to make a relationship work out after his shortcomings. Much of Circles delves into the 19-year-old’s experiences with love — the joys, the mishaps and everything in between. It’s a coming-of-age story that could resonate with any listener.

In “Found,” Douglas dwells on a potential romance doomed by distance. “Maybe it’s ’cause she live too far, far / Come from land of the free, home of the brave, brave / Concrete jungle, born in raised / In my eyes, distance can’t stop the chase,” Douglas sings.

On “Afro Blue,” the latest focus track, Douglas reminisces about a high school sweetheart. “[It] captures the essence of teenage love and the thrill of embracing the moment and taking chances in youth,” explains Douglas.

Speaking on Circles, Douglas shares, “[It] is a tribute to my childhood and my continuous growth and evolution into the man I’m probably supposed to be. Loss, money, religion, ladies, bowling and of course my dreams – and the subjects my attention demands of me, both bad and good.”

He continues, “I don’t why I made it, nor do I know why it sounds as such; I let life do its course, ultimately driving me through circles the same way I was running before finding myself through sound. In a sense, I’m presenting to you a few pages of my journal.”
