Reba McEntire’s Funny Story of Son Shelby Meeting Britney Spears

Country

Reba McEntire‘s son Shelby Blackstock was just a kid when he met Britney Spears, and the moment left him speechless.

The country icon recounted the story during the American Music Awards 50th Anniversary Special on Sunday (Oct. 6).

In a pre-recorded video, McEntire walked America down memory lane.

“One of the funniest things that happened at the AMAs one year is my son Shelby, who was about 12 years old, did not want to go to the show. He wanted to stay home and play his video games and I talked him into going with us.”

“We were right on the front row,” she continues. “And he was still a little disgruntled until Britney Spears came over and sat right beside him.”

“And he was like, ‘Oh my gosh,'” she mouths.

Country Music at the 2024 American Music Awards

The American Music Awards have historically been a celebration of all kinds of musical genres, including country music. As the awards show marked its 50th anniversary, a handful of country artists were a part of the event.

Kane Brown and Brad Paisley were in attendance for the show on Oct. 6, both introducing various acts and performing for the crowd themselves. Brown covered a little bit of Alan Jackson before singing his hit collaboration with Marshmello called “Miles on It.”

Paisley honored the late, great Charley Pride before launching into his new single “Truck Still Works.”

McEntire and Carrie Underwood both pre-recorded videos sharing memories of events passed, which aired during the television special.
