R&B duo Koffee Brown is back with their new single “Simple Things.”
The euphoric groove was produced by their longtime collaborator KayGee Gist of the hip-hop trio Naughty by Nature. The irresistible track hears Koffee Brown basking in the wonders of love.
“I’m steady loving you / You bring me back to life / With the simple things / I love you too / The little things you for me / That’s why I’m so in love with you,” they harmonize over a nostalgic production.
Speaking on their new track, Koffee Brown notes, “‘Simple Things’ is a song that expresses the true essence of universal love across the board for that special person in your life that you cherish wholeheartedly; it’s a cross-generational love song for all ages.”
“Simple Things” follows “About It” featuring Vin-Rock, their first single in over 20 years. Both songs will appear on Koffee Brown’s forthcoming EP, which will release in 2025.
Koffee Brown released “About It” in August via Slugga Music Inc. The synth-driven track was also produced by KayGee, with support from The Rookies.
Earlier this year, Koffee Brown returned after a two-decade hiatus with original member Vernell “Vee” Sales and Ryan Lane, who replaced Falonte “Fonz” Moore. They released their cover of Keith Sweat‘s signature hit “Make It Last Forever,” the title track to his 1987 debut album.
In March 2001, Koffee Brown, consisting of original members Vee and Fonz, released their debut album, Mars / Venus, via Arista Records. The album included their timeless anthem “After Party,” which peaked at No. 44 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Mars / Venus, which also included the bop “Weekend Thing,” debuted at No. 7 on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and No. 32 on the Billboard 200. Shortly after the album’s release, Koffee Brown disbanded.
In a 2019 interview with YouKnowIGotSoul, KayGee shared his reflections on the group and their first and only album.
“It didn’t get the opportunity to really get out there and touch the people the way that not only I felt, but the genre of R&B deserved,” KayGee said.
“Part of it was self-inflicted. The group didn’t really get along, even before it came out. To be honest, I think Arista kind of sensed that and felt that and knew it probably wasn’t going to go too far. So they didn’t go too far with it. It was already imploding internally.”
