R&B Duo GAWD Shares New Project ‘Cathedral City Supreme’

R&B

Emerging R&B duo GAWD has released Cathedral City Supreme, a deluxe edition of their 2023 debut EP, via Raedio.

The expanded set features six new tracks, including the previously shared “High Class.”

Cathedral City Supreme is our love letter to those navigating the shifting tides of change,” GAWD tells Rated R&B. “It’s a reminder to dance through life’s challenges with grace, resilience, and a heart full of gratitude. We made it just for you!”

On the velvety “Ska-rew,” GAWD longs for an ex-lover while trying to find someone to satisfy their bedroom cravings.

“If you wanna meet me halfway / I will skate to you / If you wanna come to place / Open the gate for you / If you want me to come tomorrow / Never late for you, I go straight to you,” they sing before bemoaning, “I just miss my old n***a, my old n***a / Where he at?”

The kiss-off “Wrong” is equally confrontational and confessional. Over a heart-pounding production, they assert they won’t allow themselves to sit home while their partner is out cheating; they’ll have their share of fun, too.

“It’s not right that you don’t know I been creeping on the low / But you think I don’t know you have been with your favorite ho / You ain’t the only one, baby, I’ll go toe to toe,” they harmonize.

Durand Bernarr makes a small cameo on mood-boosting “Dur&’s Innerlude.”

“U Dig Me” is bound to fill up a dancefloor with its funky bassline and spirited handclaps, just as much as the closing track, “High Class.”

Cathderal City was released Sept. 8, 2023. Regarding the project, they explained, “We wanted to imagine a world where we existed as nuanced and varied beings, in all sounds, genres, roles and archetypes. We wanted to see ourselves as the main characters in our own stories, flawed and complex and petty and evolved and everything in between.”

GAWD is set to join Anderson .Paak and Free Nationals on The Malibu Tour, which begins Sept. 18 at Hayden Homes Amphitheater in Bend, Oregon.

The 14-date tour will stop in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Philadelphia, and more before concluding Oct. 13 at Lakewood Amphitheatre in Atlanta.
