Ravyn Lenae Sounds Lovely on Debut Album ‘Hypnos’

R&B

Ravyn Lenae’s moment is now. The emerging singer-songwriter has released her debut album, Hypnos, her first project since 2018’s Crush EP.

Hypnos is left-field R&B at its best, consisting of 16 songs, four of which have cameos from other artists of the same caliber. Those upstarts include Steve Lacy, Fousheé, Smino and Mereba.

The first featured act appeared and worked behind the board on the guitar-laden “Skin Tight,” released with an official video. Lenae followed with “Light Me Up,” another Lacy original.

Outside of the production genius of The Internet affiliate, Lenae links with Fousheé on “Mercury,” who also created it alongside Luke Titus. The soft-spoken little memento is fit for a subliminal or deliberate Instagram story aimed at an old flame.

One of the most beautiful songs on Hypnos is “Inside Out,” a confidence-building anthem where its stock phrases are all that you make them.

Of Hypnos, Lenae said on Instagram, “I’ve dreamt of this moment for so long and it’s finally here🤍 I’m so proud and excited to share this music with you. I hope it grows, lives, and nurtures you in the same ways it’s done for me. I like to think of my music as a stamp in time or a peek into the little worlds I build in my head.. join me on the cosmic journey thru Hypnos.”

Lenae, who co-wrote a song (“Get Me Started”) on Kehlani’s latest album Blue Water Road, will support Hypnos on a headlining tour.

Starting May 26 at Neumos in Seattle, with support from Unusual Demont, Lenae will tour the nation.

After several other U.S. stops, including Los Angeles, Atlanta, and Boston, Lenae will head across the Pacific and perform a few dates in Europe. She will return for a special concert in her hometown of Chicago.

Tickets are available on Lenae’s website. See the dates below.
