Five-time Grammy winner PJ Morton is back with his new single “Please Be Good.”
The Afrobeats-tinged track, which Morton produced with P.Priime, finds him wanting to escape the stress of daily life for relaxation.
“I’ve been on the go, working so hard / I think I need a break / Every now and then, it gets too much / Much more than I can take / So take me to another place / Somewhere far away / I don’t need to be in control / I just want to let go,” Morton sings in the first verse.
Regarding the song’s creation, Morton says: “I was in Lagos, Nigeria and one of my favorite new producers P. Priime played this beat. I immediately took out my phone and started to record ideas. I love that it’s a mixture of so many vibes,” says Morton.
“Please Be Good” is the first offering from Morton’s new album coming this year on Morton Records / EMPIRE.
The New Orleans native recorded the album during his 30-day trip in Africa last fall, where he collaborated with local musicians across South Africa, Nigeria, Ghana and Egypt.
The currently untitled project will follow Morton’s 2022 album, Watch The Sun. The Grammy-nominated album features Stevie Wonder, Nas, El DeBarge, Jill Scott, Alex Isley and more. Speaking of Grammys, earlier this month Morton won Best Traditional R&B Performance for “Good Morning” featuring Susan Carol.
On Nov. 12, Morton will release his memoir Saturday Night, Sunday Morning, via Worthy Publishing, an imprint of Hachette Book Group.
