PJ Morton Gets Honest About Love on New Album ‘Watch the Sun’: Stream

R&B

For many, married life isn’t perfect. Not everything that’s shown on the outside of a couple’s so-called picturesque life is always an accurate portrait of what’s going on behind closed doors. PJ Morton’s new album, Watch the Sun, is well-represented by how his complicated love story with his wife, Kortni, remained alive.

Morton opened himself to be transparent about the all-too-human flaws that often are associated with a man in a commitment. The multi-Grammy winner’s first encounter with imploring was “Please Don’t Walk Away,” the album’s lead single and his freshly-minted top 10 single on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart.

But, the winkles in their love are examined as early as track two, “Biggest Mistake,” where he thoughtfully ponders on how close he was to losing his woman. He’s reminded never to do what he did again to his partner by revisiting an ingrained image of her crying, tears which he caused.

Forgiveness remains on the brain on songs that follow, including “Still Believe.” Here, Morton teams up with Jill Scott and Alex Isley to get back on course after a tear in a romance has challenged their future.

Morton makes his best round of songs when he offers a source of inspiration for his listeners to absorb. Take “My Peace,” featuring JoJo and Mr. Talkbox. He encourages the protection of happiness at all costs.

He ushers fans to the flowing stream to purify their minds of worries on “Be Like Water” with Stevie Wonder and Nas. He also advocates to ask for a helping hand on the Southern gospel-soul tune “Lil’ Too Heavy.”

Additional guest appearances include El DeBarge, Wale, Chronixx, Samoht, and many more.

About Watch The Sun, Morton said in a press statement, “I think these last couple years taught us to identify what is truly important. It was important for me to tell an honest story on this album. The album is an unapologetically soulful painting about the true challenges in life and love.”

Having already started his latest album campaign on the road earlier this spring, Morton is getting back in front of his fans with the Watch The Sun Tour.

The multi-date trek starts on May 25 in Australia, continuing his time there for a second night (May 26). He then will head back to North America to finish the series of dates, which consists of festivals and regular venue visits. Tickets are available now on his official website
