Time to pull your old JNCO Jeans out of the closet because ‘90s alt-metal group Orange 9mm announced their long-overdue reunion this week. The reunion comes with a new lineup that includes original vocalist Chaka Malik—the band’s only consistent member—and guitarist Taylor McLam alongside new members drummer Chris Enriquez and bassist Drew Kasal.
The band hasn’t toured or put out new music since 1999, with their final album Pretend I’m Human, bailing out on the rap-metal trend before Limp Bizkit drove the whole thing into the ground. But everything comes back around, especially nostalgic stuff from the ‘90s, and so, inevitably, Orange 9mm had to come back one day.
The band posted a few photos of their new lineup on Instagram with a story about the band’s history and reunion:
“In 1995, @ct3guitar (Chris Taylor) and I embarked on a journey to take our hardcore influences to a new place. Tribe Called Quest, Screaming Trees, and Smashing Pumpkins were the influence. We didn’t sound like those bands, but we took inspiration from each. As time marched on @ct3guitar was called to do other things in order to continue to express his musicality. Today, his amazing riffs lay the groundwork for #GavinRossdale’s iconic voice. Grace/The Universe gave the band incredible multi-instrumentalist @taylormclam, who joined amazing drummer @dont_forget_the_snuggle (Matthew Cross) and I. Flash forward two decades to today. After a long hiatus, super talented and long-time homies @chrisenriquezdrums and @drinktoremember (Drew Kasal) join Taylor and I on drums and bass, respectively. Thanks to Matthew Cross, Chris Traynor, Larry Gorman, Davide Gentile, and Eric Rice for helping to build the foundation that @orange9mmnyc will continue to uphold and possibly grow on. Thanks to Chris V. and Greg as well. Stay tuned. Much appreciation, and thanks for listening. One Love.”
No word on what the newly reformed band is planning, whether it’s a tour or a new album, so stay tuned.
