Normani Releases New Single ‘1:59’ Featuring Gunna: Stream

R&B

After much anticipation, Normani has returned with her new single, “1:59,” featuring rapper Gunna.

Produced by Tommy Brown (Ariana Grande, Victoria Monét), “1:59” finds Normani in the wee hours looking to hook up with an old fling.

“Back on that vibe again / It’s hard to fight again / Sh*t, we can’t hide again / When I get you alone / Boy, what you gon’ do with it?” she sings.

Gunna appears in the second verse, rapping, “F**k it, we made love to tunes, f**kin’ shrooms / Lock you to the bed, don’t let you move / Baby, help me heal the pain.”

“1:59” is Normani’s first single in two years, following 2022’s “Fair.” It’s also the lead single from the singer’s highly awaited solo debut album, Dopamine, slated to arrive June 14 on RCA Records.

In February, Normani went to social media to announce the album title and unveil the cover art. “Cryingg typing this [right now]. DOPAMINE THE ALBUM,” she wrote in an Instagram caption for the cover, which shows her saddled on a black rocket ship.

On the same day, she unveiled the album’s cover, Normani also shared a snippet of “1:59,” though she did not confirm the title then.

Last year, it was announced that Normani signed a new management deal with Brandon Creed and Lydia Asrat. Normani’s rep told Rolling Stone, “With new music on the horizon, and Asrat and Creed now at the helm of her musical career, she and the rest of her team are extremely excited to embark on this new chapter and partnership.”

Normani’s fans have been anticipating the former Fifth Harmony member’s solo debut album since she announced her deal with Keep Cool and RCA Records in 2018.

In February 2018, Normani joined Khalid for their single “Love Lies,” which now has over 928 million streams on Spotify. After releasing her three-track Normani x Calvin Harris EP and her 6LACK-featured “Waves” in the same year, Normani returned in August 2019 with her now-platinum debut single “Motivation.”

In 2021, she resurfaced with “Wild Side” featuring Cardi B, which reached No. 1 at urban radio and peaked at No. 14 on the Billboard Hot 100.

In March 2022, Normani released her stripped-down track, “Fair,” produced by HARV and co-written by Normani, Felisha King-Harvey, and Abby Keen. “It captured me in the moment as I was experiencing in real-time,” Normani told Apple Music’s Zane Lowe.
