A new Mýa album is on the way. The Grammy-winning singer has announced Retrospect, her first full-length project in eight years.
The album is set to arrive this spring via her independent label Planet 9, in partnership with Virgin Music.
Regarding her 10th album, Mýa said, “Music wasn’t just a part of my life; it was the heartbeat of my home, the foundation of my joy. This album is a celebration of that and the kind of funk that never fades. It’s a bridge between the past and the future, honoring the greats, my inspirations, while forging something new.”
Mýa first announced the news on the SHERRIshow on Monday morning (Feb. 2). During her sit-down, she discussed the album’s inspiration and confirmed it will feature appearances from rappers 21 Savage and Joyner Lucas.

“It’s rooted in my roots — the love of music, soul music,” Mýa told host Sherri Shepherd. “My inspirations: Teena Marie, Prince, Rick James, Stevie Wonder… The Gap Band, SOS Band, all of those influences and more. We’re taking it to the block party. We’re taking it to the basement. We’re taking it to the skating rinks. I love joy, and that’s what we’re going to be celebrating on this album.”
Retrospect will include the latest single, “ASAP,” which dropped Jan. 30. “This is for my core R&B fans who love feel-good music, with meaningful lyrics that hit the soul,” Mýa explained. “‘ASAP’ highlights one reaching a crossroad and choosing clarity by being honest about your wants and needs in times of uncertainty, without fear or hesitation.”
Retrospect is the follow-up to 2018’sT.K.O. (The Knock Out),which included standouts such as “Damage” and “You Got Me.”
