Singer-songwriter Muni Long was among the performers at the 2022 BET Awards on Sunday night.

Dressed in a pink ensemble, the Long opened her set with a snippet of her fan-favorite track “Time Machine.” She then transitioned to her now-signature single “Hrs and Hrs.”

Both songs are lifted from Long’s latest project, Public Displays of AffectionIn an interview with Rated R&B, Long shared the story behind every track on her EP. Of “Time Machine,” Long said, “It’s just a real song, man. I think every person, regardless of gender, gender identity, or sexuality, have all gone through a moment with another person where we’re like, ‘Man, I wish I never met your ass.’ (laughs). So that’s what this song is about – just expressing that frustration.”

Speaking on “Hrs and Hrs,” Long told Rated R&B, “This one is just a vibe. I was washing dishes, and it was just a very monotonous task. I hate cleaning up. So I decided to listen to some tracks while I was washing dishes. This one came up, and I just started freestyling. I would every now and then use my elbow to start it over from the top. I think I wrote the song in maybe 20 minutes. I went in the studio a couple of days later and recorded it. It’s probably my favorite song to sing live. It’s just so beautiful.”

Hrs and Hrs,” which reached No. 1 at urban radio, was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

Following her commercial success from “Hrs and Hrs,” Long signed a deal with Def Jam Records. Since signing her major-label deal, Long has released three songs: “Another,” “Pain” and “Baby Boo” featuring Saweetie.

Long recently joined John Legend on his sweet new single “Honey” from his upcoming album.
