Holy crappola! Sometimes some of us — mostly me — will casually throw around the phrase “friends of Decibel” in reference to those bands/artists/supporters/benefactors/swell human beings who are indeed friends of Decibel. Recently, after being approach by our old friends in death-grinders Rottenness about whether there was website real estate available to the tell the world about what’s going on in their world, I took a whirl back through our archives and realized that the Mexican-American band are indeed friends of Decibel, and that friendship goes back over a decade here, here, here, here and here. And that’s just the website stuff. I didn’t have the time or patience to leaf through 227 issues of the greatest extreme music magazine in the history of extreme music.
Following the release of the band’s third full-length, and umpteenth release, last year they’ve been busy and will be staying busy. Here’s vocalist Matthais Joyce with all the news that’s fit to print:
“Rottenness released their newest LP, Violentopia in May of 2022 via Selfmadegod Records (Poland). Since then, we have gone on a DIY world tour of the USA, Mexico, Colombia, Iceland, Belgium, Germany, France, Switzerland, Netherlands, Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, Slovenia, Slovakia and will finish the year with our first-ever tour of Japan and South Korea in November. Our new single, “Surgically Impaired” is a chaotic blend of old-school death-grind, the first song written by new guitarist Jorge Dominguez and features a guest guitar solo from Fernando Cortez (Hacavitz, Ash Nazg Burz). Rottenness has taken a relentless approach to touring and releasing music over the last 20 years and, with a renewed vigor from new band members and an influx of new opportunities to play death metal in other parts of the world, we have no plan on slowing down anytime soon. Salud, y nos vemos pronto!!
