Ice Nine Kills singer Spencer Charnas has said:“’TwistingTheKnife’is our tribute to Wes Craven and theScreamfranchise, which means so much to us.Screamis baked into the DNA of who I am and of Ice Nine Kills: my love of horror, comedy, and the collision between the two.
“I was already obsessed withHalloweenandFridayThe13th, butScreamwas the first I saw in theatres. Hearing the killer talk about horror movies, in that distinctively pop-culture savvy Kevin Williamson way, blew my mind.”
Grace, whoalso has her own singing career, has added: “Making this song was such a special experience for me: I am such a big INKfanand it was such an amazing opportunity to be able to play witha different styleof music.
“I am so inspired byAmy Lee’s vocals and we all wanted to channelScreamand Sydney’s story as best as we could. Spencer and the guys were so much fun to collaborate with andI’mso thankful to Kevin Williamson.”
The production of Scream 7 has been mired in controversy, afterpreviousstarMelissa Barrera was firedaftersocial media posts in support of Palestine. Some fans vowed to boycott the franchise after thedecisionand co-starJenna Ortega later said she would not be returning due to scheduling conflicts.
Campbell, who had missed thepreviousfilm due to pay disputes, wasoffered the lead role in Scream 7 after Barrera’sfiringand she agreed to return.
Ina four-star review of2023’sScream VI,NMEwrote: “Scream VIisn’tperfect: the constant meta references (past killers, the ‘rules’ of the franchise) felt inventive in last year’s reboot, butheregrowtiresome. There’salso a confusing subplot around Sam’s suppressed desire to emulate her dad (Billy Loomis, the original Ghostface), who appears in hallucinations telling her to murder people.
“Throw in the usual exposition sessions, which keep the viewer up to date on the plot but make it feel like a Gen ZPoirot, and it could all start to get on your nerves. Luckily, such is the sheer, bloody joy of the thing that you’ll be too preoccupied to notice. Maybe more horror baddies shouldmove to New York?”
