Max Cavalera is Writing a New Soulfly Album

Metal

Get ready for more wild groove metal because Max Cavalera is working on a new Soulfly album. The controversial frontman and guitarist was recently a guest on the podcast Nu Pod with Joshua Toomey and Ro Kohli where he mentioned that he is working on writing Soulfly’s next record, which will be the 13th album of the band’s storied career.

“I’m actually working on new Soulfly this year, writing and hopefully recording, but I don’t think it’s gonna come out until next year.”

He didn’t give much more in the way of details, but it does seem like the album will most likely take until at least next year before it sees the light of day. This will mark their follow-up to their 2022 album Totem, an album that was very well-received by critics even considering that the closing track was basically a 10-minute Cavalera family reunion.

With little information about the new Soulfly album forthcoming, the hosts instead took a detour and asked Cavalera if there would ever be any new releases for Cavalera’s project Nailbomb that he created with Fudge Tunnel’s Alex Newport. Nailbomb only released one studio album, Point Blank, in 1994. Cavalera said that he would love to return to Nailbomb since it would be really appropriate for today’s world, but admitted he would have to “do some Voodoo shit” to get Newport to come back to do another record. But Cavalera made it clear that he would be up for it.

Soulfly doesn’t have many tour dates coming up, but they will be playing the Welcome to Rockville festival in Daytona Beach on May 9 and the Sonic Temple Festival in Columbus on May 17.
