Mariah Carey‘s single “Type Dangerous” ascends from No. 2 to No. 1 on the Billboard Adult R&B Airplay chart dated Aug. 16.
The Anderson .Paak-produced track sends Kevin Ross‘ “Love in the Middle” down to No. 4 after commanding the chart for three nonconsecutive weeks.
It tallies Carey’s third No. 1 on the Adult R&B Airplay and her first in nearly 20 years. Before “Type Dangerous,” Carey led the chart in July 2006 with her soul-stirring anthem “Fly Like a Bird,” which reigned for six weeks.
Carey achieved her first No. 1 on the Adult R&B Airplay with her 2005 smash hit “We Belong Together,” which spent eight weeks atop the summit.
“Type Dangerous” was released June 6 via MARIAH/gamma. The song, which samples Eric B. & Rakim’s “Eric B. Is President,” debuted at No. 15 on the Adult R&B Airplay chart. By mid-July, “Type Dangerous” had risen to the top 10, becoming Carey’s 16th song to do so.
Following the premiere of the “Type Dangerous” music video, which featured a cameo from Mr. Beast, Carey released Type Dangerous – The Remixes, a four-track ensemble of remixed versions of her new hit.
It featured guest appearances from hip-hop artists Busta Rhymes, Redman, Method Man, and Big Sean, as well as a pop-oriented rendition with DJ Snake and a Brazilian funk remix featuring Luisa Sonza.
“Type Dangerous” is the lead single from Carey’s 16th album, Here For It All, which releases Sept. 26. The album will also include “Sugar Sweet” with Shenseea featuring Kehlani.
“It’s such an incredible feeling to be putting out this album — to be doing new music because I just hadn’t in so long,” Carey told Nadia of 1Xtra Breakfast. “When I started working on the project, I was like, ‘We can actually do an album.’ I had four songs, then I had five and it gradually got to a place where I was like, ‘Oh, we’re putting out an album.’”
Here For It All is the follow-up to Caution, which was ranked No. 1 on Rated R&B’s Best R&B Albums of 2018 list.
